Scripture explains that "for everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith" (1 John 5:4).
Have you ever felt like you're stuck in a revolving door, constantly entering and exiting trials? I know I have. The world's troubles are many, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But the Bible reminds us not to be surprised by the fiery trials that come our way, as they are meant to test us (1 Peter 4:12). In fact, we are told that it has been granted to us to not only believe in Christ but also to suffer for His sake (Philippians 1:29).
But even in the midst of trials, we can have peace. Jesus encouraged the disciples with this, "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). So how are we to respond when we face trials? James 1:2 challenges us to count it all joy when we meet trials of various kinds.
Of course, counting it all joy is easier said than done. But as believers, we can take comfort in knowing that the Lord is with us through it all. His peace surpasses all understanding, and we can trust Him to guide us through every trial. We can be hopeful in Christ, knowing He is at work in us, teaching, encouraging, and equipping us for whatever comes next. He is growing us as we delight in His Word, like the tree planted by the water that yields fruit and does not wither (Psalm 1: 1-3). Jeremiah 17:7 teaches that “the one who trusts in the Lord and puts his confidence in Him is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Even in the wilderness of our trials, we can still bear the fruits of the Spirit by His grace, mercy, and love. And for that, we can count it all joy. As the Apostle Paul declared in 2 Corinthians 4:8–9, "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed."
So take heart, Sisters in Christ. Because of what Christ did for us on the cross, we can find our confidence in Him when we face trials. We cannot only survive the trials that come our way but overcome them and thrive, knowing that He walks with us every step of the way. Praise Him!
With His Joy and Love
